The Story

Maximus was on a routine building search February 28th when he fell 15 feet through the floor of the second story and shattered his right front leg. He underwent surgery during which a plate, rod, and 9 screws were needed to repair the injury. Max came to us for rehab 3 weeks after surgery with a barely functional limb. He has been doing so 3x/week for underwater treadmill, massage, stretching, strengthening. We have also used a physioball and modified agility equipment to improve his gait, balance and coordination, as well as encourage him to bear weight on his right front limb. Max is now improved to the point we are working on more demanding skills and he is jumping broad jumps and running hills. He and his partner John have worked very hard and we are hopeful his progress will continue.

Update:
Maximus was retired by the police force due to continued nerve damage and fear of him reinjuring himself. However,on a trial run of the competition course Max would have performed at the next USPCA competition, he scored well in the range of the top contenders. He is still truly a hero and living the good life with his handler and family.

Max & His Partner at Our Clinic

I truly believe had it not been for the rehab Maximus received with Jean of Our Hearts Canine Rehab and Carmen of Canine Underwater Treadmill he would have never been able to work the streets of Cincinnati ever again.
